Krakow -Old town and Wieliczka

After we repaired Loki we drove to Krakow.
To find a campsite was not that easy, because the session hasn`t started jet.
We found out, that a place named Clepardia, north the center, was already open. From here we would like to discover the Old City, as well as the salt mine “Wieliczka, a recommendation from Dagmar.

Krakow, Wawel

Krakow, Wawel

The campsite Clepardia is situated near the center of Krakow. As we arrived a lot of guests were already there. Because of our weight we weren`t allowed to enter the meadow ( Loki isn´t such heavy, compared to other motorhomes). At the very next morning we visited Krakow downtown.

 Krakau – Old town

Die Altstadt ist der historische Stadtkern von Krakau an der Wisla gelegen.

Krakow, Main Market Square

Krakow, Main Market Square

Old Town is the historic city center of Krakow, situated at the river Wisla.
You can find a huge market place with covered by halls.
A lot of religious people came to the churches with their baskets in order to get a benediction.
At the edge of the marketplace you can find the St. Albert Church. Not only the two different towers are interesting, it`s worth a visit inside as well.
We walked further to the Wawel castle, which is located on a hill between the old town and the river.

 Wieliczka – salt mines

We went by bus south to Wieliczka, were the salt mines are located. Until 1996 the salt mines were still on duty, today it`s a place for tourists.

Wieliczka, Salzminen

Wieliczka, Salzminen

They offer two different tours: the Tourism Tour and the Miners tour
We choose the first one, which should take us to the most famous places inside the mine.
We had to step over 300 steps down into the mine to reach the first level. All together there are nine levels.

The mine itself looks like a big town underground.
The tour lasted two hours. We passed a lot of lakes, halls and a cathedral.

At the next few days we will leave Poland to head to the Ukraine.
