The sea was calm, the sun was shining, when we started to Southwest Pinnacle Koh Tao around lunch time.
Diving Southwest Pinnacle Koh Tao
The boat of Alvaro Diving Center starts compared to other diving schools slightly later.
This point and that we are on Koh Tao in November – the Low Season – was the reason that we were the alone at Southwest Pinnacle Koh Tao.
The Southwest Pinnacle Koh Tao is situated some kilometres away from Koh Tao. The top of the pinnacle is in around five metres under the surface. The dive spot is special for its blocks and uncountable anemones, which are growing there.
The conditions outside the water were great, instead the conditions, we found under the surface, were challenging. The visibility was about five to eight metres and a strong current – starting in a depth of two metres – went around the blocks. From metre to metre we went down the sun was blocked by the sea. It was getting dark around us. It seemed that we started an unspectacular dive.
Walhai Southwest Pinnacle Koh Tao
Koh Tao is well known to see whale sharks. Looking for protection against the current we swam further, when we were watching the fishes around us. It seemed the fishes moved easily.
We did not thought to find whale shark
However, it happened. Something dark moved between the last pieces of sun at the surface und us: a whale shark. A whale shark swam above us.
Happy from this impression we finished our dive. The current was picking up. Next stop Shark Island.
